Dining @ Old Ahmedabad

Amazing place I discovered yesterday. Always heard stories about the wonderful food present in the by-lanes of Old Ahmedabad. But experienced it first hand yesterday.

Treat given by Basu da, our group mate! A line of non-veg street side eateries adorned that narrow lane. We went to ZK Fry Centre. And what a pleasure it was to witness the chicken being "tandoored" right beside you!!!

If 1 tandoori chicken was not enough, I had 2 more followed by chicken fry, prawn fry and chicken biriyani. The icing on the cake (chicken?) was well halwa!!!

1 more year left at Ahmedabad and I need to explore all the eateries at Old Ahmedabad. Starting to love the city. Its got a life of its own. Right from the Navratri celebrations to the Kite flying festival in January. From Rambhai outside campus to the friendly auto rickshaw drivers (Yes, I call them friendly since they go by the meter which is a non-existent phenomena back in Chennai). Its a place waiting to be explored. Away from the monotony of the Red Brick Walls.

End of the 1st Term @ WIMWI

Never felt as relaxed before as now. What a roller coaster ride I had in these 3 months at IIMA. Quizzes,assignments,WAC,T-Nite,parties and not to mention the dreaded slot exams. Back to the same routine again on Tuesday and its only gonna get harder from now on.

It was just like yesterday when I entered this campus and felt overawed by its magnificent architecture and now its become more like a routine walking through the LKP with the tall buildings still staring at me and mocking at our plight (1st years do have a hard time out here!!!).

Disappointed by Parker

A so called US based company Parker had come for the campus placements.Highly disappointed with their process...
Making us wait till 2 pm for the written test with their flights reachin late(so much for punctuality)
Worse still was the way the interviews were conducted...I was the last person to be interviewed and had to wait till 4pm for that.

The people from the other department had been interviewed on an average of 30 mins...It does feel bad when you are not given a chance to showcase yourself.Mine lasted just around 15 mins...Without any technical questions,all this didn't make any sense...The HR's didn't ask many questions.Rather I was asked to tell the questions the other people who went before me were asked.

Still I feel I need to develop the ability to impress the interviewers in the limited time I get be it 10 mins or 30 mins...Looking forward to doing my best in the next interview.

Cognizant calling

Got the first placement this season: Cognizant.

Had a great day today.Interview went superb.Was asked general stuff and some basic questions in mechanical.

Useful advise for people appearing in interviews will be to be confident throughout the interview and never show that you get tensed or nervous.Frankness and honesty are the key.Guess work will not be serving any purpose.

Looking forward to getting some core offer also!!!

CSK wins IPL 4

The Super Kings have done it finally...They've lifted the coveted IPL trophy.It has been an all round team effort.But feel sorry for the Mumbai Indians who've played great cricket throughout the tournament.Next year Sachin won't be taking it easy...He'll lift the world cup for us and the IPL trophy for his Mumbai Indians!!!

Happy Tamil and Bengali new year to everyone...

But this day is significant for me in more ways than one...Its precisely on this day last year that something shocking happened.So shocking that it will knock the winds out of anyone who encounter such a situation... A person doesn't call you for a year....A person doesn't respond to you...A person whom you' thought your friend betrays you...What can be more shocking than that...

The word "friendship" is getting diluted these days...Something important I've learnt in the last one year...This blog is not meant to be a place to garner sympathy from others.So I won't be going into any more details...

Facebook precedes Blogging

well the reason i'm not blogging much these days is due to the emergence of Facebook.Its much easier to reach a wider section of people posting daily updates on oneself than writing a para on Blogpost which not many read...
Lack of readership is another reason which discourages me from blogging.

Anyway I wont be disappearing from Blogpost.Will update about the important happenings in my life here from time to time...

97th Indian Science Congress

Had a superb time at the 97th ISC at Trivandrum...
Apart from the science exhibits and lectures the most exciting part of my whole trip was the buffet breakfast lunch and dinner provided there...
Was lucky enough to have got the hostel accomodation...The place for the gastronomic delights was just a stone's throw away...

Coming to the poster presentation which we did,it went off very well with many senior ISRO officials appreciating our work!!!But the best thing I took away from the conference was the spirit of participation.An old man aged around 70 had come from Kolkata with his design of a ladder mechanism to climb trees.Its precisely these things which inspire us and motivate us to come up with something better each time we get onto the field!

The train journey was all the more exciting with 2 of our friends having unreserved tickets playing cops n robbers with the TT...But at last they managed to sleep in our compartment.SVCEians don't accept defeat whether its a professor or TT...Victory is always ours...

Say hello to 2010 and Goodbye to 2009

Well another year comes to an end and another starts.

Don't know how this cycle keeps on going.The last year breezed by so quickly that before I realised its 2010.

2009 hasn't been that great a year for me but I hope to make amends in 2010 by making it the best year till now in my life.(well that's the resolution we do take in the beginning of the year isn't it?) I just understood how great people can be in the previous year.People whom we think are the closest to us turn out to be our bete noire!So its not worth it spending our time thinking about such people cos the more we dwelve into others' minds the more we lose our own identity.The more we think why the other person hurt us,the more we hurt ourselves.The bottom line is that some people never change no matter how hard we try.Hope they eventually realise our worth and make amends.

Very excited about the Indian Science Congress '10 which I'll be attending in Trivandrum this week.Will update on the event once I'm back from it.

Ignition '09

Well,it was sympo time today.The day went off quite unexpected as there were loads of surprises at store.

First thing,our college symposium hardly attracts participants from other colleges.Even last year there were around 20-30 for the symposium.So this time too we expected only 50 to turn up.But guess what-the total turnout was 380+.Now believe the kind of hard work we guys had to put up for such a challenge(if that's the name to be given).

Secondly I was one of the organisers for the event "Mechathlon".The thing is we just prepared the question paper for the finals yesterday and planned out the entire thing.The unexpected thing is that here too we expected hardly 20-25 to turn up.So didn't give much thought into conducting any sort of prelims.Plus 2 other guys had taken the onus of preparing the questions.But today morning I find them nowhere.

Time : 9 am only 2 hrs remain for the prelims and no paper set yet!Entered the CADD lab hoping to print out the questions.But where are the questions?!? So off i went googling "mechanical quiz questions" and voila,the very first site that pops up got all the questions.

9.30 am By now we selected the questions and finished editing the prelims paper.Now it was just a matter of time by which we managed to take printouts n xerox. Came to know that more than 43 teams registered for Mechathlon(each team has 3 members).So realised that we had a big task at hand.I prepared few tie breaker questions too just in case!!!

11 am Prelims under way.You should have seen how much I was sweating it out!!!running here n there.Seeing that all the things were in order.

After this 5 teams got selected and each of these teams were assigned a volunteer each to accompany them in their journey to being the ultimate mechanical champion!I was in charge of one of the teams.Now here's the format of the event:

The contestants are given different tasks in different labs and they gotta finish them up all within 90 minutes.Tasks involved were maching a cylindrical workpiece,carpentry,sheet metal and tasks in SOM,DOM n thermal labs.

Time: 1.50 pm The event gets over and so does the lunch in the canteen.Survived on few biscuits and an ice cream!!!

In the meantime we gotta see some of the coolest cars on display like Mercedes SLK 500,SLR 350 which were both convertibles.Hope to own them some day(by legal means)!!!

Had a great day today.Only thing we all cribbed was that we got very less sponsorship with the college giving us nothing but peanuts.Still quite happy that we put up a great show!!!

A new year,A new beginning

Well today marks the first day of my 3rd year in college.I still remember that day when we just entered college,the day when we entered a completely new environment,the day we met completely new people,professors and not to forget our great canteen food to which we are so much habituated now.
Why I'm telling this is a new beginning is cos' I've decided at last to struggle hard from this year atleast.Well i just somehow managed the first two years with some decent marks(83% is decent for me!!!).This year atleast I gotta strive hard as I got number of important "career deciding" exams next year.Plus the "main distraction" is gone.What I supposed to be mine was never to be.That's life in a nutshell.The moment we think something is almost ours and we've almost reached our goal,the next moment it comes crashing down before us leaving us crestfallen.Maybe I'm better off without that "distraction".Nah,I won't mention what or who's that.The ones who know would've already guessed by now.And for the ones who don't,then "mind your own business" LOL!!! maybe i'll drop some hints in the forthcoming posts!

But sometimes life gives us a second chance and sometimes not.So better inscribe my life atleast online.Who knows maybe someone decides to make a film on my life such as a biopic!!!
So I'll be posting quite a few things now but in flashback!!!

Topsy Turvy Ride

19th March,2009
Well I literally had a topsy turvy ride that day!!!One of the unforgettable moments of my life.

The bus was enroute to college as usual in the morning with most of us happily sleeping inside it.Suddenly there was a loud thud and the next moment we realised our bus tilted at 45 degrees on the edge of the road.A boulder prevented it from overturning.Lest I may not have been posting this now.
Had a really long day today.The bus apparently was going at full speed when suddenly a big trailer came in front of it.So to prevent it from crashing head-on with it,the driver swerved to the left.As a result the right side of the bus dragged along the front part of the trailer thus breaking all the glasses attached to the window frame. And I was on the window seat somewhere in the middle of the bus.I was half asleep when it happened but thankfully the glass that broke near my window didn't hit me somehow.Or so I thought.

After the bus swerved off the road it was inclining at 45 degrees!most of the people got down from the front door.But some of us who were in the rear portion of the bus decided against it as then the bus may have toppled.So we got down through the windows!After reaching college through another bus(incident took place 10 mins away from college),I felt some pain in my lower back then I realised I had a deep cut in my back.Maybe it was due to my getting down through the window or maybe the glass piece would have hit me. Then we were taken nice care of in the medical center of our college.Given snacks and not to forget the great "Tetanus" injection.Parents took me home by 2 pm as I couldn't stand the pain.

Hope such an incident never occurs again.The drivers should be more careful particularly ours as he was listening to radio through his headphones!How irresponsible.He doesn'y realise that the life of future "engineers" is at stake.

Industrial Visit to ICF

Today had a pretty good time at the ICF,Perambur Shell division.30 of us class guys attended the first half of the IV.Well I was among those who "bunked" the second half of the IV.
To start with,we assembled around 9.00am and it was only around 10.15am when we got to enter the factory."HUGE" is the term that comes to my mind when describing the factory.Its basically like a workshop where they assemble and manufacture the railway components.(well what else do u expect in a coach factory). Pretty interesting though we had to walk a long distance inside the factory.Must have knocked off a couple of kilos!!!

Photography was prohibited until I took snaps without getting caught.(u r r8,i like breaking rules).
We exited the factory around 12 thinking of having lunch in the ICF canteen.But compared to it our college food turned out to be better.Seeing is believing,so we decided to have lunch outside.3-4 guys brought their cars,so we stacked up inside them and went to the Hotel Paramount right next to my house!But after that most of us didn't return.Not a sensible person can walk again for IV after having so much for lunch.I would have puked for sure!!!
Heard that only around 15 guys attended the IV again from 1.30pm.It must have been inside some furnishing division and so called "museum".It went on till 4 pm.Just the time I got up from a heavily needed sleep!!!

Back 2 blogging

hey everyone,
me back to blogging after almost 2 months.The main reason being I was out of blogging for so many days was simple--I got BORED of it!!! But now Im bored of everything else so blogging maybe a way out.
Have been pretty busy since the college opened.Loads of tests,record works,long bus journeys.
Now practicals in a month and then sems from November---Hectic time ahead.

Something good to share!!!

"Something good to share...."

One day a father of a very affluent family took his son on a trip to the country with the firm purpose of showing his son how poor people live.

They spent a couple of days and nights on the farm of what would be considered a very deprived family.

On their return from the trip, the father asked his child, "How was the trip?"

"It was great, Dad"

"Did you see how poor people live?" the father asked.

"Oh yeah," said the young man.

"So, tell me, what did you learn from the trip?" asked the father.

The lad answered: "I saw that we have one dog and they had four.
We have a pool that reaches to the middle of our garden and they have a creek that has no end.
We have imported lanterns in our garden and they have the stars at night.
Our patio reaches to the front yard and they have the whole horizon.
We have a small piece of land to live on and they have fields that go beyond our sight.
We have servants who serve us, but they serve others.
We purchase our food, but they grow theirs.
We have walls around our property to protect us, they have friends to protect them."

The boy's father was speechless.

Then his son added, "Thanks, Dad, for showing me how unfortunate we are"
Isn't perspective a wonderful thing? Makes you wonder what would happen if we all gave thanks for everything we have, instead of worrying about what we don't have. Appreciate every single thing you have, especially your near and dear ones! If you pass this page on to friends and acquaintances, they too will hopefully refresh their perception and admiration.

Jaane Tu.....

Well,well,well....Janne Tu Ya Jaane Naa.....I'm still spellbound by its magic.

A bollywood movie comparable to hollywood standards.Well,don't think I'm exaggerating out here.
By hollywood standards I don't mean all the action and special effects sequences.I mean the acting and the music part.A.R.Rahman's music is the highlight of this film.Its a new fare from Rahman and slightly western is his music.Not the typical bollywood fare.The songs are both rocking as well as melodious.This is what i call "melodious-rock".

And the other highlight of this film is the acting part.The actors don't act.They appear so natural that we don't think they are acting.They were actually living out the scenes.Imran Khan(Aamir's nephew) does an excellent job in his debut and not to forget the ever so bubbly Genelia who adds a touch of freshness and youthfulness to the film. Kollywood's gonna miss u Genelia cos I think she won't have time for our tamil films.

The story is the oft repeated one of friends becoming lovers but not realising the same.But the difference of this film lies in its cast.Each character is carefully crafted and do full justice to their role.Be it Naseeruddin Shah as the dead father of Imran or Paresh Rawal as the Inspector.

I would recommend this movie to everyone and its not to be missed.

Welcome to the 3rd sem--a new yr begins!!!

Back to college!!! Sounds a bit strange to me as all these years its been like "Back to school" where we would pack up our school bags and lunch boxes waiting for a whole new year--to create nuisance in the school....Still miss those days.

Well,college is no less fun.College starts again tomorrow.Loads of challenges and fun lies ahead.The road ahead has to be traversed carefully!!!

Bengal Adventures!!!

Had a pretty cool time in Bengal last week.Enjoyed to the core.Saw elephants,rhinos(only in pictures...missed spotting them in the jungle)
Jungle?Well what me doin there.well its right,I was in the jungle doing all "wild" things!

Visited quite a few places and also my native village.Gotto know many of my relatives whom I hadn't even seen before.Missing the place very much.
